CLIMBING
Climbing Package
Within a radius of 25 kms., we have more than 30 different sports climbing crags with compact limestone walls. The crags are well equipped, mainly south facing and on the whole the routes are technical face climbing with good friction. But sports climbing is just the beginning. We have hundreds of trad routes longer than 300m(900ft), some of which are 750m (2250ft) and there is much more virgin rock waiting to be explored. The guesthouse is in close driving proximity to many excellent climbing walls:
CLIMB DISTANCE GRADES NO. OF ROUTES
Sella crags 5 minutes grades 3 -8 215 routes
Divino 5 minutes grades 4 - 8 47 routes
Puig Campana 15 minutes grades 4 - 7 25 routes
Sierra de Toix 30 minutes grades 4 - 8 146 routes
Penon d'lfach 35 minutes grades 5 - 7 22 routes

The Costa Blanca mountains have become widely recognised as one of the best climbing areas in Europe. The great quantity, quality and variety of climbing within a relatively small and easily accessible area makes this place an excellent destination. This combined with the mild winters and the many cheap flights to Alicante, has meant that it has become a major destination for climbers from all over the world. The dry and mild climate practically guarantees you no cancellations or changes to your climbing program due to bad weather.

Climbing Course Package

We have two basic programs - a beginners course and an advanced course - but the level of each course is finely adjusted to your experience. We combine the technical skills of traditional climbing with the more dynamic and gymnastic side of sports climbing. Everything you learn here is standard knowledge and you will be able to apply it directly back at home.

The climbing course includes basic instruction on rope techniques, safety, abseiling, traditional climbing and bolted routes. Mornings are generally spent practicing knots, abseiling techniques and self rescue. Once the rock comes out of the shade at about 10.30, the students head of to the Sella walls. Climbers start off on fixed bolted top rope climbs, 3- 3+ grade. Once this has been mastered we move to more difficult 3+ - 4 top rope climbs. The climbers need to be confident on these grades before we move them back down to grade 3 for lead climbing. The second day we climb until lunch and then in the afternoon we do an abseiling course. Day 3 or 4 is devoted to traditional climbing and gear placement. This is all done with additional top rope safety. The last 2 days are devoted to enhancing the climbers skills on bolted routes, leading and seconding. We find that generally a good student leaves being able to lead a 4 - 4+.
Students should leave the course with a good basic knowledge and skill in climbing techniques, abseiling and safety, safety, safety.
The day normally starts with breakfast at 8.30 followed by an hour of rope work at the guest house. Climbing normally ends at 5-6 o'clock, with a drink in the village or at the climbing refuge. After dinner we often put on climbing videos to show the various qualities and skills that can be mastered.
