KAYAKING

Location: Situated on the Costa Blanca, in La Villa Joyosa, we offer a wide range of paddles and Outings. From day trips to a 3 day trip that takes in some of the more spectacular parts of this coast.

What to expect
The paddling on the Mediterranean is mostly gentle; there are very few currents. Swell is uncommon, and winds are normally local. That is not to say that it is flat all the time. I have had the pleasure of paddling in 5m swells on this coast, but this is very rare. Normally the levante wind gets up in the summer and afternoon. This is a land\ sea breeze that blows in the afternoon. The levante in summer can blow fairly hard, and creates a nice chop to test our paddling skills. For the absolute beginners we paddle in the mornings and afternoons when the sea is very calm.

For those of you who are more advanced and enjoy kayak surfing and a bit of fun this is a great place for it.

Day Trips:
We run most of our day trips from La Villa Joyosa (30 km north of Alicante) and Altea (50km north of Alicante). From these 2 locations we can do easy beginners “introduction to kayaking” trips or much more advanced kayaking trips, for people with prior paddling experience.

Advanced day trips:
La Villa Joyosa to the island: This is a great paddle as we see the coast but then we have to leave the comfort of the coast and head out to sea. The island is about 7km out to sea. The island is a wild life sanctuary, but has a small restaurant for the boats that stop. We have a light lunch of tapas while waiting for the favourable Levante wind to pick up so that it may blow us home. This is an 18km paddle. (This paddle is both weather and paddlers level dependent)
Price: 55 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

Down wind run to San Juan (Alicante): This is a lovely costal paddle following the coast from La Villa to San Juan. The coast along this section is largely wild and undeveloped. We have a picnic lunch on a little beach and then return to la Villa.
Price: 55 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

Island of Altea to Calpe: Start the paddle at La Isleta in Altea and paddle along the impressive walls of Morros De Toix. Stop in Calpe for a light tapas lunch and then paddle back to Altea. (This paddle is both weather and paddlers level dependent)
Price: 65 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

Altea to La Villa Joyosa: Along a section of coast that has High sea cliffs and is largely inaccessible from the land. We also pass Benidorm. I think this is a good thing to see as we can see what this coast was like and what has happened to some parts of it.
This is a 25km paddle. We stop along the way for a picnic lunch…. (This paddle is both weather and paddlers level dependent)
Price: 65 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

Alicante trip: Paddle to the island of Tabarca. Tabarca is an island of Historical importance. It is 5km off the coast, and was used by the roman’s, moors and Christians as a fortified base. It is still possible to walk along the perimeter wall built by the roman’s. And have uninterrupted views of the Iberian coast.
The paddle starts in Santa Pola just south of Alicante. We paddle out to the island and then make our way around the island to a beach on the south side. We spend half an hour exploring the tiny village and then find a restaurant for some light tapas. After lunch we paddle back to Santa Pola.
Price: 70 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

2 Day Trip
Altea to San Juan: The paddle starts in Altea with an over night stop in La Villa Joyosa. We have a guesthouse that we use as the over night base. The guesthouse is about 15km from the coast, hidden in the mountains. A lazy barbeque or paella dinner on the outside terrace and then early to bed.
Each day consists of about 20km of paddling. The paddling is largely along rugged unspoilt Mediterranean coastline. We take it nice and slowly and have plenty of stops to explore or swims.
Lunch and snacks are all carried in dry bags. We can use doubles or singles depending on the skill of all the paddlers, or a mixture of both.
The sea in this part on a whole is safe, but is not unusual in summer and autumn for the Levante wind to blow. This wind blows us down the coast but makes the sea choppy. It is very good for surfing or sailing in the kayaks.
Price: 155 euros p\p including picnic lunch paddling equipment and guide.

3 Day Trip or 2 Day
Denia to La Villa Joyosa
This is an epic 2 or 3 day trip along some of the best coast line on the Mediterranean. The way is rugered with few places to land. Days are spent paddling and exploring. The first night is spent on an isolated beach hidden among tall mountains. This region of the coast is full of sea caves which we spend some time exploring. The second night is spent on the island of Altea. It is a very small island that is uninhabited and we are careful not to leave our traces behind. Nights are spent under the stars as tenting on beaches is prohibited. Each day consists of about 20km.
Lunch and snacks are all carried in dry bags. We can use doubles or singles depending on the skill of all the paddlers, or a mixture of both.
The sea in this part on a whole is safe, but is not unusual in summer and autumn for the Levant wind to blow. This wind blows us down the coast but makes the sea choppy. It is very good for surfing or sailing in the kayaks.
